UAE e-Invoicing Deadlines: What Businesses Must Do Before January 2027

The FTA has set firm deadlines for mandatory e-invoicing. Businesses with annual revenue of AED 50 million or more must act before 30 October 2026 or face AED 5,000 monthly penalties.

The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has issued a formal call for compliance with the phased rollout of the UAE's mandatory e-Invoicing System, emphasising that administrative penalties are already in force for businesses that miss the prescribed deadlines. The System requires affected businesses to connect through an Accredited Service Provider (ASP) and implement e-invoicing via EmaraTax, the FTA's digital tax platform.

The deadlines split businesses into two groups based on annual revenue. Businesses with annual revenues of AED 50 million or above must appoint an Accredited Service Provider no later than 30 October 2026 and have the e-Invoicing System fully implemented by 1 January 2027. Businesses with annual revenues below AED 50 million must appoint an ASP by 31 March 2027 and implement the System no later than 1 July 2027.

The penalty for non-compliance is AED 5,000 per month, or part thereof, of delay — this applies to both the failure to appoint an ASP and the failure to implement the System itself within the prescribed deadlines. The FTA has confirmed these penalties are already operative under the applicable legislation, not prospective.

What this means for our clients

For founders and businesses already operating in the UAE, this is an operational compliance matter, not a planning exercise. The first deadline — ASP appointment for high-revenue businesses — falls on 30 October 2026, leaving very little lead time. The FTA has been clear that the integration process involves several sequential steps: selecting an ASP, contracting with them, completing technical integration, and following the correct procedures on EmaraTax. Each of these takes time, and delays at any stage can push a business into penalty territory.

Businesses below the AED 50 million threshold have until mid-2027, but the FTA's consistent advice — reinforced at a joint stakeholder meeting held in Dubai in September 2026 — is to begin the process well ahead of deadlines. The ASP selection stage alone requires evaluation of multiple accredited providers, and integration timelines will vary depending on a business's existing accounting and ERP infrastructure.

  • Confirm whether your business is subject to the e-Invoicing System and identify which revenue threshold applies to you.
  • If your annual revenue is AED 50 million or above, appoint an Accredited Service Provider immediately — the deadline is 30 October 2026.
  • Review the FTA's list of Accredited Service Providers on the e-Invoicing section of tax.gov.ae before selecting one.
  • Contract with your chosen ASP and begin technical integration; do not wait until close to the implementation deadline.
  • Complete all required steps on EmaraTax to activate the System.
  • If your revenue is below AED 50 million, begin the ASP selection process now to avoid a last-minute bottleneck before the 31 March 2027 appointment deadline.
  • Factor the AED 5,000 per month penalty into your risk assessment if any step is likely to be delayed.
